SCRATCH BAND RETURN
If you missed the amazing #scratchband last weekend, fear not, they are playing for us this Friday night 12th August.
It was always a great night last year when they kindly played for us and it seems the chemistry of great music, #woodfiredpizza #caskale #craftlager and lovely people melds together to create a wonderful alchemy!
Come and join us from 5pm. All welcome, no bookings. To support the local community organisation Transition Tattenhall we will be asking for a £1 donation per person, come and have a wonderful evening.
CRAFT ALE IS BACK
Wincle Waller is back on draught from Friday 12th August.
3.8%. A pale ale that is a delicious refresher with an enduring appeal.
Open from 4pm - 9pm then 5pm - 9pm on Fridays and Saturdays
HELLES - THE WEEKENDS COMING .....
Our draught lager this weekend is Lost & Grounded Helles. A gentle and balance unfiltered lager at 4.4%. Soft, bready and floral is how the brewery describe it and it is vegan friendly. £3/pint
Join us in our festival garden for a refreshing pint, it pairs brilliantly with our pepperoni pizza if you want to make a meal of it

All team members are involved and this week Will has come up with our latest special. Olive & Sun Blushed Tomato Tear & Share Flatbread. Just look at the colours in the ingredients that he has chosen. Simple but go together beautifully.

Steve Thomas is back this Friday spinning his vinyl in the FiredUp festival garden.

A lovely little suntrap in our walled garden area. Very informal. Good tunes playing. Grab a pizza and a beer (or wine, or soft drink or just your pizza) take a seat and enjoy.

Due to the ongoing building works picking up pace, we are unable to use our usual entrance so we have a temporary one in Barbour Square - don't worry though we are easy to find and will have plenty of signs to help you along the way.

SOUL KITCHEN CHESTER
Delighted to be supporting @soulkitchenchester with a donation of pizzas. Soul Kitchen Chester is a 100% voluntary group - supporting & feeding anybody experiencing loneliness, food poverty or homelessness
We know that it still doesn't look any different from the front, but our building team are busy beavering away on the inside and results are starting to show. This week the tiling has started in the ensuite bathrooms. Plastering has started downstairs in the main pub area and the wall has been knocked out to make the French doors from the function room out onto the roof terrace.
MOVING FORWARD WITH THE REFURBISHMENT OF THE BEAR & RAGGED STAFF
While things don't seem to be changing much from the High Street view of the Bear, the progress inside the pub is continuing.
The roof is on the rear extension, the function room ceiling has been plastered - which is no mean feat - and more of the bedrooms have been plastered and the shower trays have gone into the bathrooms ready for the tiler starting in the next week or so.
PINEAPPLES, PINEAPPLES EVERYWHERE!
Don't you just love a beautifully prepared pineapple! Our Smoked Pancetta & Pineapple pizza is a fabulous balance of salty pancetta and sweet pineapple pieces with a zing of pickled red onion slices to set them both off perfectly. Fully restocked in Mortons Spar Tattenhall and Burwardsley village store and post office
HUXLEY DELI, STORE & BUTCHERY
We are delighted to say that our parbaked pizzas are now also available at Huxley Deli, Store & Butchery . @thepoffee have added our Smoked Pancetta and Pineapple pizza to their stock and Mortons Spar Tattenhall is fully stocked once more.
FIREDUP@HOME - PARBAKED PIZZAS
Another busy day at the FiredUp oven as we restock Mortons Spar Tattenhall and Poffee. Our hand stretched pizzas par baked in Koda our woodfired oven and then topped with fine quality ingredients for you to finish at home.
We have added the Marinara to the range this week, as well as the usual, Margherita, Pepperoni, Alpini, Smoked Pancetta & Pineapple, Garlic Mushroom and Parmigiana, so something for everybody. Enjoy

We would like to wish Brian Mellor all the best in his new ventures. Brian was instrumental in helping us to establish FiredUp@thebear. What was intended as a short pop-up offering pizza for collection, has lasted much longer than we anticipated developing over the last 12 months by Erica Rathbone and Fiona Hilton into not just pizza collection, but @home kits, delivery, our festival bar and selling in local shops. Thanks again Brian, all the best.
We hoped of course that Firedup would lead us nicely into opening the pub, and whilst that remains our plan, the ongoing Covid-19 situation has, sadly, continually necessitated that we delayed the project. To risk opening without complete confidence that society was recovering out of the pandemic and without the risk of further trading restrictions, would simply be too high-risk for us and to do so would jeopardise the mid- and long-term longevity of the pub.
We are making good progress though and are perhaps afforded more time to plan and develop the building and as a result the building is in good shape. The eight en-suite bedrooms are built and ready to be fitted, the cookery school and function room, together with the new toilets and kitchen space are all formed and the extension which is housing our conservatory and terrace, in place.
Our vision is still very much alive to provide a rural village pub with great local food and beer and generating amazing gastronomy and hospitality. Our current focus is on opening in 2022, the likelihood being that it will be later in the year, given the current and predicted situation. We do however look forward to keeping you updated with our plans on the people, the pub, the grub, and the beer!

RESTORATION - EXTENSION ROOF
The roof is on. The walls are going up for the extension at the back of the pub. Progressing slowly but surely as we head towards 2022.
PAR BAKED DELIVERY
Don't forget you can order for this weeks delivery of our par baked pizzas via Facebook messenger or our email.. Order 4 or more pizzas before 3pm on Thursday and we will deliver them to you Thursday evening for over the weekend.
More of our Christmas special - Stilton and Cranberry will be available again this week.
Fancy one of our par baked pizzas, but don't want to venture out in the grotty weather? We will deliver Thursday evenings for orders of 4 pizzas or more, so that you are all ready for the weekend. Order by 3pm on the Thursday via either Facebook messenger or email firstname.lastname@example.org with your address and a contact phone number or email address and we will send you through a payment link. We can then delivery your par baked pizzas between 4pm and 7pm Thursday evening.

PIZZAFEST - A HUGE THANKYOU
Wow, what a weekend that was!
We are just about recovered from PizzaFest and would just like to give our thanks to all involved. It was a really special day and we hope those that came along enjoyed it and we would like to thank you all for your support.
Special thanks to all the producers and craft makers, all superb, and of course to the artists who entertained us throughout the day - thank you Scratchband, Nicky Phillips VillageBeatz and Steve Thomas - all absolutely amazing. Also to Brian and Erica for fabulous demonstrations. Thankyou also to Fiona and our fabulous team at FiredUp. Their boundless support, hard work and enthusiasm helped make it a really special day for all involved. We are so lucky and happy to have such an amazing team.
I am also delighted to advise that we raised £315 for CureLeukemia! not quite the £500 we had set as a target but a great contribution all the same - maybe VillageBeatz we 'll need one more hurrah before the summer ends to make up the difference? .

2500 COOKED PIZZA WINNER
Last week we realized that we were very close to selling our 2500th cooked pizza! This was claimed on Thursday night by Lloyd Owen with his pizza & prosecco deal. Congratulations to Lloyd who gets a pizza with our compliments with his next order.
STUDENTS APPLY LESSONS AT BEAR & RAGGED STAFF
Cookery and construction aren't two trades you typically see together, but for Cheshire College — South & West and The Bear and Ragged Staff they make the perfect pairing. Before the most recent lockdown, construction learners at Cheshire's largest College had been putting into practice new skills they've learnt in the classroom to support the renovation works required at the pub.
At the start of the year we had a competition for the best recycled pizza boxes, with some fantastic results. Please keep sending us photos of your upcycled boxes.
